DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 01 March) – A 15-year-old cyclist died after he fell off his bicycle when his shoelace got wrapped around one of its pedals while scaling Hilltop in Barangay Langub, Davao City around 7:20 a.m. on Friday.

In a police report, Capt. Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office, said the minor cyclist was a student and resident of Lakandula Street, Jerome Extension, R. Castillo, Agdao, Davao City.

She said he lost control of his bicycle during the ascent, fell on the pavement, and lost consciousness.

Hilltop is a popular destination among Davao cyclists for early morning rides where they can get a view of Mount Apo on one side and the cityscape on the other.

Tuazon said responders from Barangay Langub immediately arrived in the area but the minor was no longer responding.

She said the cyclist was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center where he was declared dead around 9:00 a.m. by Dr. Noel E. Paguirigan, the attending physician. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
