DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 27 August 2026) — Police and school authorities across the Davao Region faced multiple threats of violence in schools days after the shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University that left two minors dead.
In Davao City, Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) canceled classes at its Sta. Ana (Main) and Bajada campuses on Tuesday afternoon, while San Pedro College (SPC) shifted to online classes starting Sunday, August 23. Both schools acted after an unverified message chain circulated online, warning of potential attacks by unidentified individuals.
Other schools, including the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP), Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU), and Holy Child College of Davao, tightened security, with measures such as bag inspections, metal detectors, and online classes.
Police in Digos City, Davao de Oro, and other areas investigated threats involving minors who had sent alarming messages. Schools like Laak National High School and Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School also reported threats, assuring coordination with authorities.
The Department of Education postponed a scheduled safety drill to September 3, citing weather concerns amid heightened tensions. Authorities urged the public to avoid spreading unverified threats, as even jokes could provoke panic. (Yas D. Ocampo / MindaNews)
