A Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed in a remote area of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, killing all six crew members on board, including two pilots. The helicopter, a Super Huey, took off from Davao City and lost radio contact midway through its flight to Butuan City, where it was supposed to conduct damage and needs assessment, and relief operations in the Caraga region, which was devastated by Typhoon Tino. Despite favorable weather conditions and a thorough check of its systems, the helicopter crashed, and its remains were found in a hilly, forested area. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and investigators are working to retrieve a data-recording device to aid in the investigation. The military has grounded two other Super Huey helicopters pending the results of the investigation, and the perished airmen will be accorded heroes’ honors for their service.
