Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is investing in a large-scale data center that can carry up to 100 megawatts, to be built in either the Visayas or Mindanao. The facility will have an initial capacity of 20 MW and can be raised to 100 MW depending on demand. This move aims to enhance the quality of connectivity services outside of Luzon, where Converge’s current data centers are located. By setting up the data center outside of the metro, Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy hopes to give consumers in Visayas and Mindanao a quicker link to a facility where applications and information are stored, resulting in better internet reliability and speeds for subscribers in the regions. The investment is part of Converge’s preparation to invest more in data centers, following its connection to two submarine cable projects, including the Bifrost Cable System, which has achieved ready-for-service status and is expected to begin data transport by November or December.
