BFP nominates Macacua for Maguindanao del Norte’s 3rd district

The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) has formally endorsed Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua as its candidate for Maguindanao del Norte’s 3rd district, solidifying its political lineup for the upcoming landmark elections this September. Macacua, who serves as the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) chief and the secretary-general of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), was publicly backed by his brother and BFP Secretary General Tamano Macacua during a party convention in Cotabato City. This endorsement is seen as a strategic cornerstone for the party as it prepares for the high-stakes 1st BARMM Parliamentary Elections, marking a critical transition in the region’s governance and autonomy. In a statement on 27 April, Macacua announced his temporary withdrawal from partisan political activities to focus fully on his duties as the region’s Transition Period concludes, emphasizing the importance of efficient public service delivery and community security. He called for unity and cooperation, urging stakeholders to prioritize the aspirations and welfare of the Bangsamoro people above personal interests. Macacua assured constituents that improving their quality of life remains paramount as the region progresses. The MILF’s party, UBJP, has not commented on BFP’s endorsement. BFP has conducted General Assemblies across Maguindanao Del Sur, Maguindanao Del Norte, Cotabato City, and the Special Geographic Area, with filings for the 32 district representatives ending on 7 May at the Comelec Bangsamoro Region.
