DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 14 June) – The covered courts of Ateneo de Davao University’s Senior High School will now be named the RBBCC (Rene Bobet Baterbonia Covered Courts) in honor of the late student-athlete, as announced by ADDU President Fr. Karel San Juan during a mass Sunday night.
Baterbonia, a member of ADDU SHS Class 2026 and the 2025 Palarong Pambansa MVP, will be forever remembered at the campus where he practiced and played basketball. San Juan emphasized that Bobet’s legacy will live on through the university’s commitment to fulfilling his dreams for his family, including scholarships for his six siblings.
The university also acknowledged the outpouring of financial support for Baterbonia’s family, with updates relayed to his mother, Rovelyn. San Juan described ADDU-SHS Bangkal as the most beautiful among the school’s campuses, highlighting the chapel where Bobet prayed and the courts where he played.
Coach Jess Evangelio praised the tribute as a fitting honor for a young man who inspired many through his humility, hardwork, and dedication. He noted that future athletes will draw inspiration from Baterbonia’s story every time they step onto the RBBCC.
Thousands paid their respects during the three-day public viewing, with long lines extending into Sunday night. Baterbonia’s remains will be transported to Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, where he will be welcomed as a hometown hero. (Carolyn O. Arguillas / MindaNews)
