A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Mindanao, the Philippines’ second-largest island, early Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The quake occurred at 04:37 AM at a depth of 105 kilometers, with its epicentre located at Latitude 5.28 N and Longitude 126.08 E. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) tweeted the details of the quake, and PHIVOLCS assured the public that there is no tsunami warning in relation to the quake. Although there have been no immediate damage or injury reports, officials have asked residents to be vigilant and ready for potential aftershocks. The Philippines is situated on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region prone to frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes due to active tectonic plate movements, making it essential for residents to be prepared for such natural disasters.
