Twenty-six families were left homeless and one person was injured after a fire broke out in Purok Kalipayan, Barangay San Agustin Sur, Tandag City, early Sunday morning, August 31, 2025. The blaze, which started around 7:00 A.M., destroyed 13 houses and the village hall of San Agustin Sur. Emergency response teams from the Tandag City Emergency Response Team (TCERT), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Tandag, Tago Fire Station, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Surigao del Sur quickly responded, with the fire declared under control by 8:09 A.M. Mayor Roxanne Pimentel ordered the mobilization of emergency teams and evacuation assistance was provided by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. By 2:30 P.M., relief efforts were underway, with the City Government of Tandag distributing food packs to the affected families, who are temporarily housed at the San Agustin Sur Covered Court. Reyveen John Geli, officer-in-charge of the Tandag City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, stated that coordination with concerned agencies continues to ensure the safety and welfare of affected residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
