Woman arrested for allegedly embezzling P8-M sale of expensive watches

A 31-year-old woman was arrested during an entrapment operation in Quezon City for alleged embezzlement.

According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report in “24 Oras” on Monday, the arrest stemmed from several estafa complaints over the selling of luxury watches at a very cheap price.

“Galing sa pasugalan sa casino. Kung saan ito yung mga natatalo sa sugal at siya yung ginagawang middlewoman para maibenta,” said CIDG NCR chief Police Colonel Marlon Quimno.

(These were from losers in gambling in the casino and she is the middlewoman tasked to sell these items.)

Her modus, according to the police, the suspect will ask for a downpayment from the unsuspecting buyers online and will ghost them after.

The case has already undergone inquest before the fiscal.

“Siya mismo nagsabi sa inquest proceedings natin na mahigit P8 million na yung nakulimbat niya sa iba’t-ibang kliyente,” said Quimno, adding that the suspect had been addicted to gambling.

(She herself said in our inquest proceedings that she had already embezzled more than P8 million from various clients.)

However, the suspect who goes by the alias “Shobi” said she is already working on her P2 million debt in the casino and apologizes to her alleged victims.

“Nagkautang po ako, pero inayos ko po yun at patuloy ko pong inaayos…Pero wala po akong planong takbuhan. Sa mga nagawan ko po ng kasalanan, humihingi po ako ng patawad,” she said.

(I got into debt, but I fixed it and I’m still working on it… But I have no plans to run away. To those I have wronged, I ask for forgiveness.) — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
