Valenzuela City deploys mobile showers amid extreme heat

The local government unit (LGU) of Valenzuela City has deployed mobile showers to communities affected by water supply interruptions amid the hot weather, Unang Balita reported on Wednesday.

The two mobile showers aim to allow affected residents to have free showers to avoid heat-related health problems.

“These (mobile showers) will cater to residents experiencing water shortages and will be roaming in different barangays,” the Valenzuela LGU said in a Facebook post.

As of Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the mobile showers have reached Barangays Gen T. De Leon and Parada.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, more parts of the Philippines may have to endure the blistering heat as it sees heat index spiking between 45°C and 54.8°C in May

Heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity and the air temperature.

PAGASA said heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely in areas experiencing a danger level heat index, which is from 42°C to 51°C. Heat stroke is also possible with continued exposure. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
