Beauty queen, architect and Pasig City councilor candidate Shamcey Supsup on Monday announced that she has resigned from her political party following the controversial solo parent remark of one of its members.
In a Facebook post, Supsup said she left because her values, especially as a woman, mother, and leader, no longer align with the group.
“This decision is not made lightly, but with full respect for my fellow aspirants, for the Miss Universe Philippines Organization whose mission I carry, and for the many women and girls who look to me for strength and clarity,” Supsup said.
“I choose to stand firmly by the values I’ve upheld throughout my life: dignity, respect, accountability, and women empowerment. At this point, I believe the best way to stay true to these principles is to take a step back, reflect, and listen to allow space for clarity before taking the next steps,” she added.
Lawyer Christian Sia, who is running for representative of the lone district of Pasig City, recently joked about single parents during a campaign rally.
A video of him telling the audience during a campaign rally that female solo parents may sleep with him once a year went viral.
“Minsan sa isang taon ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon pwedeng sumiping sa akin (Solo parents may sleep with me once a year),” Sia said.
He later apologized, vowing that it will not happen again.
However, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) issued a show cause order, asking him to explain why he should not be charged with an election offense or disqualification for violating a Comelec resolution that sets the anti-discrimination and fair campaigning guidelines for the 2025 national and local elections. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
