What appeared to be a sandstorm near the Senate of the Philippines is actually a gust front, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
According to the report of GMA News’ Ian Cruz, at around 2 p.m on Wednesday, there was limited visibility in Pasay City as winds whipped around trees and steel wires in an unfinished building.
PAGASA said that even if it seemed like a sandstorm, it was a “gust front”.
A gust font is the first part of a thunderstorm, the state weather bureau said.
This initial phase of a thunderstorm has strong winds, so it can kick up sand, giving it the appearance of a sandstorm. — Jean Mangaluz/BAP, GMA News
