The Quezon City Police District has filed a complaint against the officials of transport group Manibela after they held a transport strike from June 10 to 12 in protest of the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program.
In Luisito Santos’ report on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday, the QCPD said Manibela chairperson Mar Valbuena and Manibela Bulacan/San Fernando, Pampanga president Regie Manlapig were charged with violating the Public Assembly Act of 1985, as well as Article 155 (alarms and scandals) and Article 151 (resistance and disobedience to a person in authority) of the Revised Penal Code.
The complaint was filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, the report said.
According to the QCPD, the protesters failed to show a permit from the city government to hold a rally.
The report added that the QCPD tried to have a dialogue with Manibela, but Valbuena and the group leaders allegedly refused to cooperate with the police.
Valbuena earlier apologized for the traffic caused by their protest, as they did not expect the influx of PUV drivers and operators who joined the rally.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that radio reporter Val Gonzales would file a complaint for physical injury against some Manibela members who allegedly hit him while covering their protest on Monday.
But Valbuena denied Gonzales’ claim, saying that it was the reporter who provoked their members.
GMA Integrated News reached out to Valbuena for comments.
