Motorists and pedestrians complained over the lack of streetlights along Sales Road in Pasay City, as they expressed concerns for their safety in using the dangerous road.
In his report Monday on 24 Oras, Kapuso Action Man Emil Sumangil said the public is concerned of possible vehicular accidents and crime in the area due to the absence of streetlights.
“Madilim so possible mag-take advantage yung may masasamang loob. Naka-encounter na rin ako na may naaksidente sa part na ‘to,” one of the complainants said.
(It’s so dark that criminals may take advantage of it. I also encountered an accident here.)
A Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcer deployed to the area also said he was hit by a vehicle while directing traffic along the dark thoroughfare.
“Nagta-traffic po ako diyan then suddenly may hindi daw niya ako napansin and then nabundol niya ako. Siguro po sa dilim na rin talaga,” said traffic enforcer Lambert Soriano.
(I was directing traffic when the driver hit me. He said he did not see me. It was probably very dark.)
“Luckily, hindi naman po siya major injury,” he said.
(Luckily, it wasn’t a major injury.)
The MMDA Traffic Signal Operation and Maintenance explained the old street lights were no longer functioning due the construction of a flyover in the area. They are now eyeing to put up temporary lights in ten sites while waiting for permanent lighting to be installed along the route.
