A female Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) employee was caught on Wednesday morning allegedly attempting to sneak into the prison facility a bag of pandesal stuffed with shabu.
According to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras,” the BuCor inspection team found one packet of shabu stuffed inside a pandesal, while another was hidden beneath the bread.
The contraband was intercepted at Gate 1 of the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum security compound in Muntinlupa City.
“Pero siyempre kahit magkakabaro ‘yan, ininspect talaga thoroughly. So nung na-inspect, ‘yun pala, may nakatago sa pandesal na mga droga,” said BuCor director general Gregorio Catapang.
(But of course, even if they are colleagues, they are inspected truly and thoroughly. So when it was inspected, that’s when we found out, there were drugs hidden in the pandesal.)
In a follow-up operation by BuCor, authorities recovered 33 more packs of shabu from a person deprived of liberty (PDL) in one of the dormitories in the maximum security compound.
Investigation showed that the arrested BuCor personnel frequently visits the PDL while the latter was confined at the BuCor Hospital.
“Duda namin, sila ang nagkakakuntsabahan para magpuslit ng mga droga sa loob. Kaya pati yung PDL iimbestigahan din, dahil makakasuhan na naman siya ng anti-drug trafficking, lalo siyang makukulong ng mahabang panahon,” said Catapang.
(We suspect they are conspiring to smuggle drugs inside. That’s why the PDL will also be investigated, because he will again be charged with anti-drug trafficking, and he will be imprisoned for a long time.)
The arrested BuCor personnel and the PDL involved have yet to give their statements. They are facing charges for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Further, Catapang said that the arrested BuCor personnel will also be relieved from her post soon.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
