The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday announced that the number coding scheme is suspended January 29 for the celebration of Chinese New Year.
“Kung Hei Fat Choi! Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng expanded number coding scheme sa Miyerkules, Enero 29, bilang pagdiriwang ng Chinese New Year,” the MMDA said in a Facebook post.
(The number coding is suspended Wednesday, January 29 due to Chinese New Year.)
It noted the usual heavy traffic in several areas in Metro Manila, particularly in Binondo, Manila– the oldest Chinatown in the world.
“Kadalasang mabigat ang daloy ng trapiko sa mga lugar tulad ng Binondo sa Maynila kung saan isinasagawa ng mga Tsinoy ang kanilang tradisyon,” it said.
(Traffic is often heavy in areas like Binondo in Manila, where the Filipino-Chinese community celebrates their traditions.)
Earlier today, the Manila Police District-Public Information Office said the following roads will not be passable to vehicles starting 9 p.m., January 28 or the eve of the Chinese New Year:
- Stretch of Quintin Paredes from P. Burgos Avenue to Dasmarinas Street;
- Jones Bridge;
- Plaza Cervantes; and
- Binondo-Intramuros Bridge.
