A man pretending to be an National Bureau of Investigation agent and asking thousands of pesos from individuals who want to become an NBI agent, police officer or pass the Civil Service Commission exam was arrested, according to the report of John Consulta on “24 Oras.”
The NBI Technical Investigation Division swiftly arrested the suspect in a shopping mall in Manila.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago confronted the suspect for using his signature in the latter’s fake ID card.
NBI Intelligence Division Asst. Director Noel Bocaling said the suspect promises his victims jobs at the NBI and the Civil Service Commission and introduces himself as an NBI agent.
The authorities recovered from the suspect a fake NBI badge and ID as well as fake documents, including scholarship grants for those who wish to be flight attendants.
The NBI said the suspect got about P200,000 from the couple who were promised that they will pass the CSC exam and a job at the NBI with a salary of P35,000 a month.
It was found out that the suspect was connected to an orphanage that was raided in Bulacan that was allegedly involved with illegally facilitating the adoption of children by foreigners.
“Mac,” one of the complainants, said he was concerned because the future of his family was at stake with the papers that were being processed by the suspect turned out to be fake.
He is asking that the money, his savings, be returned to him.
The suspect strongly denied the allegations.
“Wala po akong ginagawang mali sir. Kumbaga sa ano, tiwala lang po,” he said.
(I’m not doing anything wrong, sir. Just trust.)
Bocaling said the suspect will face the charge of estafa because the offense was consummated, that the suspect received the money.
Bocaling said those who were victims in the past can go to the NBI office and these will be added to the cases that will be filed. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
