NBI nabs alleged human trafficker, rescues 7 freelance models

National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) agents arrested an alleged human trafficker and rescued the suspect’s seven freelance models, according to John Consulta’s “24 Oras Weekend” report on Saturday.

According to the NBI, suspect Diane Manarang assured the freelance models, including a minor, that they would be famous if they followed her orders.

“Ang sinasabi niya na siya ay konektado sa mga film, magazines, na pwede niyang magamit itong mga models. Isang bonus niya ay yung pag-aalok niya ng sexual na serbisyo dito sa mga models after the event,” said NBI Assistant Director for Regional Offices Atty. Lito Magno.

(She said that she had connections to films and magazines that she can use for these models. The models will receive a bonus if they offer sexual services after an event.)

“Yung lalabas na bayad ay umaabot mula sa P20,000 hanggang P100,000, P200,000,” he added.

(The payment ranged from P20,000 to P100,000, P200,000.)

The suspect, however, denied the allegations.

“False accusations po lahat yun kasi event model po talaga kami lahat and lahat ng ito ay setup lang po kasi may mga taong inggit sa akin,” Manarang said.

(These are all false accusations because we are really event models and all of this is just a setup because some people are jealous of me.)

The cellphone of the suspect was currently with the NBI and would serve as evidence as it supposedly contained a list of her customers.

“Dahil sa batas natin pagmay menor na involved at nata-trafficking that is already qualified as human trafficking activity. Pangalawa rin naman dahil sa dami ng kanyang dinala at narescue natin again qualified pa rin ito. Two different sections, papasok siya sa qualified human trafficking,” Magno said.

(Based on our law, if a minor is involved and is trafficked that is already qualified as human trafficking activity. Second, we rescued several models, so again it is still qualified. Two different sections, but qualified as human trafficking.) — Richa Noriega/DVM, GMA Integrated news
