(UPDATE) SEN. Bong Go on Tuesday provided assistance to families affected by a fire in Barangay 773, San Andres Bukid, Manila.
Go distributed aid to 44 families, which included financial aid, grocery packs, snacks, water containers, clothing and vitamins.
He also shared breakfast with the residents.
“Let’s remember that money can be earned, clothes can be washed and things can be bought. But money can’t buy life. We must live,” he said.
He praised the rapid response of local officials, particularly Barangay Captain Romeo Palileo, and thanked Mayor Isko Moreno and other city officials for their support.
Go assured residents that his office is accessible to anyone in need.
“To the best of my ability, my office is open for all of you,” he said.
The senator also discussed government efforts to assist displaced families, including the validation process for potential beneficiaries of the Emergency Housing Assistance Program.
He said his proposed Rental Housing Subsidy bill, filed as Senate Bill 192, is designed to provide temporary shelter assistance to disaster victims transitioning to permanent housing.
Go also emphasized the need to enhance the country’s emergency response capabilities, referencing the Bureau of Fire Protection ` Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored.
In discussing safety measures, he brought attention to the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, also authored by him, which mandates the establishment of disaster-resilient evacuation centers.
