A 29-year-old man was injured after being struck in the head with a wooden plank in Happyland, Tondo, Manila.
In a report to GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita Tuesday, Jhomer Apresto said a CCTV footage showed the victim talking to someone when a man suddenly appeared and hit him from behind last Friday.
The victim was brought to the hospital and needs immediate surgery. His father said they need two bags of blood to proceed with the operation.
According to the victim’s father, the altercation began when he felt disrespected by the suspect’s friends and admitted to hurting one of them. His son allegedly tried to defend him, but was unexpectedly attacked.
“Ang tanong ko, bakit nakialam eh hindi naman siya ‘yung inanong tao (My question is, why did he interfere when he wasn’t the one involved),” he said.
“Intensyon talaga nilang paluin ‘yun (They really intended to hit him),” he said.
The father admitted to saying harsh words to the suspect’s family but denied any intent to act violently.
“Kasi ako, magulang, sino ba naman hindi magagalit sa anak kong ginanyan eh halos patayin nila, syempre magsasalita ka nang hindi maganda (As a parent, who wouldn’t be angry seeing their child treated that way? Of course, you’d say something unpleasant),” he said.
The 19-year-old suspect surrendered to authorities later that day. The Manila Police District recovered the wooden plank used in the attack.
The suspect’s mother said the victim’s father hit one of her son’s friend whom he accused of hurting his kin.
Seconds later, the victim, who was allegedly drunk, appeared and allegedly threatened to shoot the suspect and his friends.
“Nagwawala na rin po tapos pinagbabantaan po silang babarilin isa-isa (He was acting violently and threatening to shoot them one by one),” the mother said.
She added, “Yung anak ko po syempre parang sabi niya nagdilim na raw po ‘yung paningin niya (My son said he lost control because his friend was punched).”
She apologized to the victim’s family and said they are trying to raise money for hospital expenses.
Barangay officials are working to obtain a private CCTV footage to clarify how the incident started.
“Para at least magkaroon ng ano po ‘yung pangyayari talaga, kung ano talaga ang puno’t dulo ng pinagmulan po (So we can understand what really happened and how it started),” said Imelda Bermejo, desk officer of Brgy. 105.
