Man arrested for assaulting dog in Manila

Authorities arrested a man in Sta Ana, Manila, who attacked a dog during his violent outburst against his relatives.

According to EJ Gomez’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” a barangay kagawad said the suspect fought with his father and then his cousin, before hitting the dog repeatedly with a stick.

CCTV footage caught the suspect attacking his cousin, who was outside a store.

After the incident, the angry suspect repeatedly hit the dog, but it was not caught on video.

Video from concerned residents showed the animal on the ground whining in pain.

The suspect was arrested by barangay officials after they saw the dog lose consciousness.

They also recovered the stick the suspect used.

The dog’s owner, who witnessed the incident, said she is determined to file charges against the suspect.

“Naaawa po ako sa aso ko. Wala pong ginagawang masama po sa kanya, pinalo niya po (I feel sorry for my dog. My dog was not doing anything to him but he attacked it),” she said.

The dog, which possibly sustained fractures in its head and body, was brought to a veterinarian.

“Itutuloy po talaga namin yung kaso po dahil sa una pa lang po talaga sakit sa ulo po talaga siya dun sa lugar po namin (we will push through with the case since he has been a source of many problems in our neighborhood),” the owner said.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s cousin said he will not be filing charges since he did not sustain any injuries.

The suspect said he was sleeping when he was suddenly startled and grabbed the stick he kept in his room.

According to barangay officials, the suspect is the subject of several complaints for causing trouble in their area.

The suspect was also accused of using illegal drugs, but he declined to comment on the matter. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
