The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has impounded the jeepney caught on video swerving and speeding along Marcos Highway on Tuesday.

In a video, the jeepney is seen carrying four individuals hanging onto the back step. The vehicle was reportedly packed, swerving, and allegedly trying to race the jeepney in front of it.

“Pinipilit niya kasing i-drift yung jeepney so, left and right pinipitik niya ‘yung rear portion of the jeep,” Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said in a “24 Oras” report Friday.

(He was forcing the jeepney to drift, so he was swerving the rear portion of the jeep left and right.)

“So, nade-delikadong makatama siya ng ibang sasakyan, ng ibang motorista, or mahulog ‘yung mga sakay niya, or tumaob at magpagulong-gulong siya diyan,” he added.

(So, he was risking hitting other vehicles or motorists, having his passengers fall off, or causing the vehicle to overturn and roll over.)

Past 3 p.m. on Friday, LTO enforcers found the jeepney in Jala Jala, Rizal where they also met with the driver and operator of the vehicle.

“Iniimbestigahan namin kung ano pa ‘yung iba’t ibang violations na nagagawa nila nung previously na naka-record sa LTO,” Lacanilao said.

(We are already investigating what other violations they may have committed that are previously recorded with the LTO.)

Another video went viral online after a male passenger fell out of a jeepney after taking a reckless swerve.

The LTO said it has issued a show-cause order to the driver and has notified the registered owner. A hearing on the incident is already scheduled for July 14.

The transportation office has also ordered the surrender of the jeepney’s license plate and will require the driver to undergo a mandatory drug test and a road safety seminar.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has already suspended the operator of the jeepney. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/LDF, GMA News
