A driver who claimed to be a mayor of Bulacan is now being hunted by authorities after using the EDSA busway.
In Darlene Cay’s report on “24 Oras” on Friday, traffic enforcer Mark Joseph Cezar stopped the driver of a blue pickup vehicle on Thursday for using the northbound side of the EDSA-Ortigas busway.
But the driver attempted to escape by trying to hit the traffic enforcer thrice as seen in the video by the Department of Transportation’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTR-SAICT).
He finally stopped after a motorcycle rider blocked his way.
The driver asked for a violation ticket, but when asked for his license, he failed to provide one. He then introduced himself as “Mayor Perez” of Bulacan.
The traffic enforcer had no choice but to let the driver go.
DOTR-SAICT spokesperson Jonathan Gesmundo said that the incident and the plate number of the pick-up vehicle were already reported to the Land Transportation Office so that a show cause order could be issued to the driver.
The driver could face charges for unauthorized use of the busway and for threatening the traffic enforcer.
The DOTR-SAICT said it is considering adding more enforcers on the busways along EDSA with the expected increase in vehicle volume in the runup to the holidays.
Authorities are still searching for the driver. Records also show that there is no incumbent mayor of Bulacan named Perez. —Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
