A cyclist, the driver of a van and two of his companions got into a physical altercation in a road rage incident in Antipolo, Rizal.
In a “24 Oras” exclusive report from Ian Cruz on Wednesday, a cyclist in black could be seen throwing kicks and punches against two other men in blue. Several other men in blue then joined in the scuffle.
According to the person who took the video, a utility van belonging to an internet service provider was honking at the cyclist.
The driver of the van and the cyclist stopped to talk, however, a few moments later, the other passengers of the van went down and confronted the cyclist.
“Binusinahan ng driver yung nagbibisikleta…nasa bike lane naman yung nagba-bike…Parehas mainit yung ulo nila,” witness April Escobar said.
(The driver honked at the cyclist… he was in the bike lane… they were both hotheaded.)
The cyclist in the video is a mixed martial artist and a soldier.
“Pagharap ko, alam ko naman yung instinct na maibigay nila. Kailangan i-protect ko ang sarili ko. So inunahan ko na. Pero di siya una na malakas, parang friendly kicks lang siya. Ayun doon nag umpisa,” the cyclist said.
(When I faced them, I knew the instinct that they were giving off. I had to protect myself. So I went ahead. But it was not that strong, it was like friendly kicks. That was when it started.)
The cyclist ended up with bruises on his fists and left side of his head, and a bump on his head after the altercation.
While the driver and the cyclist were able to sort things out in front of police officers.
However, Land Transportation Office issued a show cause order against the driver and the owner of the van. The van driver’s license was also suspended for 90 days.
“Bawal yung road rage, pagbaba ng sasakyan makikipag-away, makikipagbugbugan,” LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said.
