A police officer and a suspect were killed during a shootout in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City on early Monday morning.
According to Nico Waje’s “State of the Nation” report, Patrolman Harwin Curtney Bagga and his partner were responding to a robbery incident along Katipunan Street when the suspect managed to surprise and shot at them.
Despite being mortally wounded, Bagga and his partner returned fire, fatally hitting the suspect.
Bagga was brought to the hospital but later passed away. The bullet in his arm went through his chest.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect.
The robbery victim, a food cart owner and a bystander were also shot.
The National Capital Region Police Office said the responding police officers actually encountered the suspect who told them the direction of the supposed robber.
When the cops turned away, the suspect pulled out his gun and fired at them.
The Philippine National Police is preparing a recognition to be awarded to the slain cop. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
