The Bureau of Immigration (BI) nabbed a Pakistani man in Makati City accused of overstaying in the Philippines.
Khasta Rahman, 42, was arrested at a convenience store along Antonio Arnaiz Avenue in Barangay San Lorenzo in a targeted operation on March 27 following an anonymous complaint against him.
He was asked to present his passport but failed to do so, leading to his immediate apprehension.
“Foreign nationals must comply with the legal requirements of their stay in the Philippines, or they will face deportation,” said BI Commissioner Joel Viado in a press release on Wednesday.
Fortunato Manahan Jr., chief of the BI intelligence division, said the arrest was part of the agency’s efforts to track down foreigners violating Philippine immigration laws.
“We remain vigilant in monitoring and apprehending those who abuse their stay in the country. Our intelligence teams work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift action,” said Manahan.
Rahman is now in BI custody and is facing deportation. After his exit, he will be included in the Philippines’ immigration blacklist, preventing him from returning to the country. —Sundy Locus/VBL, GMA Integrated News
