BFP to probe Makati station’s alleged Fire Code violation

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Wednesday said an investigation will be launched into the alleged Fire Code violation of Makati City Central Fire Station.

In a statement, BFP spokesperson Fire Superintendent Annalee Carbajal-Atienza said that such a violation will not be tolerated.

“The results of the surprise inspection done by our DILG Secretary yesterday at the Makati City Central Fire Station [are] acknowledged and will be investigated further by the BFP National Headquarters at the soonest time,” she said.

“Transgressions of the Fire Code and related laws are not tolerated by the agency and shall be dealt with accordingly,” she added.

On Tuesday, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla relieved from their posts the Makati fire station officials whose parked vehicles blocked the fire truck driveway during his inspection.

The Fire Code of the Philippines of 2018 and the 2019 Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) provide that there should be no obstructions in the ingress and egress of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles nor should there be any prevention, interference or obstruction of any operation of the fire service.

Atienza said the BFP follows the rules and regulations as she assured Remulla that the bureau will give instructions to strictly implement measures for a smooth operation.

“The BFP abides by the rules and regulations governing the Philippines – especially the source of its mandate, the RA 9514 or the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008,” Atienza said.

“We assure the good Secretary that directives will be issued to strictly implement measures that will facilitate the smooth delivery of services across the nation,” she added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
