About 80 families lost their homes andsome pet dogs were killed after a fire broke out along Barangay 330 Santa Cruz, Manila, on Thursday.
According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras,” some residents believe th e demolition project at a nearby school caused the fire.
“‘Yung nag-acetylene daw dito sa may eskwelahan bumagsak daw sa nga bahay ang alipato,” a resident said.
(Someone used an acetylene torch at the school and sparks fell into the homes.)
The fire reportedly spread quickly among the houses.
No one was hurt but a few dogs were killed.
“Kahit nasunog na lahat basta sana naisalba namin yung mga aso. May buhay ‘yan,” said Juliet Abihay, a pet owner.
(It’s okay if we lost everything to the fire if only we saved he dogs. They have lives)
The Manila Department of Social Welfare said those who lost their homes to the fire will not be allowed to return to the surface of the estuary.
A relocation site for the victims has been set up and the local government unit has sent help. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
