8 Taguig cops dismissed from service, commander demoted over police misconduct

Eight cops were dismissed from service over police misconduct after conducting an illegitimate search in a house in Taguig City in February, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Monday evening.

“Five personnel were found liable for Grave Misconduct, Less Grave Misconduct, and Conduct Unbecoming of a Police Officer, and were consequently dismissed from the service,” the NCRPO said in a statement.

“Three personnel were found liable for Less Grave Misconduct and Conduct Unbecoming of a Police Officer, and were consequently dismissed from the service,” it added.

The commander of Police Substation 5 faced a one-rank demotion as he was also found liable for grave neglect of duty.

One police officer was absolved.

On February 9, the NCRPO said some personnel from Police Substation 5 forcibly entered the complainants’ residence without a valid warrant, committed physical abuse, and allegedly stole over P76,000 in cash and several electronic devices.

Aside from this, the NCRPO said the complainants were forcibly taken, deceived, and allegedly coerced into signing a document to drop charges.

“Pursuant to the strategic direction laid down by the Chief PNP, PGEN Nicolas Torre, the NCRPO will stand firm and uncompromising on ensuring police accountability within the ranks. Let it be known: there will be no second chances for police scalawags,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said.

He also reminded police personnel to follow proper procedures and established protocols, avoid any illegal activities, as well as remain lawful, proper, and respectful of the rights of the citizens. —KG, GMA Integrated News
