3 minors, mother rescued in Manila hostage taking

Authorities rescued three children and their mother after they were held hostage by a security guard in Baseco compound in Manila.

According to John Consulta’s “24 Oras” report on Thursday, suspect Justine Sagun visited friends in the building when he suddenly carried out the hostage taking against three children aged five, two and one.

“According to those na nakainuman niya, balisa raw ito, disturbed, at ang demand niya, kausapin ang kapatid niya at may problema siya,” said Manila Police District chief Police Colonel Arnold Ibay.

(His drinking buddies said he looks disturbed and demanded to talk to his sibling because he has a problem.)

Police arrested the suspect and retrieved the knife he used to threaten the victims.

He will be facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law, slight illegal detention and illegal possession of deadly weapon.

Meanwhile, the minors will be referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for counseling.

The suspect apologized to the victims over the incident.

“Humihingi po ako ng pasensya, paumanhin sa nagawa ko,”  Sagun said.

(I am sorry for what I did.)—Sundy Locus/ LDF, GMA Integrated News
