Many commuters stranded after MRT-3 suffers glitch

Many commuters were stranded on Tuesday morning after the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) encountered a technical problem, forcing it to limit trips from Shaw Boulevard Station to Taft Avenue Station and vice versa.

The provisional service was in effect as of 6:30 a.m., the management said in a post on Facebook.

The train operator said that as of 5:56 a.m., a technical issue was detected between the Santolan and Ortigas southbound interstation.

“Our maintenance teams are immediately on site, performing necessary safety checks and actively working to restore full service efficiency as quickly and safely as possible,” the company said.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for patience,” it added.

Commuters formed long lines at EDSA carousel bus stops to get bus rides or tried to book a motorcycle taxi or transportation network vehicle service (TNVS).

Normal operations however resumed at 8 a.m., the train operator said.

“As of 8:00 AM, MRT-3 has resumed its normal operations, maximum operating speed of 60 kph along the line,” it said.

To help commuters who got stranded, the MRT-3 will offer free rides for the rest of the day.

“We will be offering free ride for the whole day. We sincerely apologize again for the inconvenience,” it said.
