Manila Bulletin – 4th alarm blaze rages in Sta. Cruz, Manila

Panic gripped a residential area in Sta. Cruz, Manila early Thursday, April 30, as a fast-spreading fire tore through homes, quickly escalating into a fourth alarm blaze.

The fire broke out at around 2:41 a.m. along Mayhaligue Street in the Masangkay area.

Within minutes, it surged to a second alarm and was raised to a third alarm by 3:27 a.m., before reaching fourth alarm status as flames continued to intensify.

More than an hour into the incident, firefighters are still battling the growing inferno, which continues to spread rapidly due to light residential materials.

Efforts to contain the blaze are being hampered by dwindling water supply, making operations more challenging on the ground.

The Philippine Red Cross has deployed its fire and medical teams to assist in the response, working alongside the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Emergency medical services remain on standby for residents and responders affected by the fire.

Authorities are urging residents in nearby areas to evacuate immediately as the fire continues to threaten surrounding homes.

As of posting time, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage remain under investigation.
