MANILA – Internet watchdog Scam Watch Pilipinas (Scam Watch) has called on the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to appoint a new head for the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).

In a statement on Wednesday, Scam Watch co-founder Jocel de Guzman said a new CICC head has to be appointed “as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of essential services, particularly those that help protect and assist scam victims nationwide.”

“It is worth noting that the CICC has had no appointed executive director for over a month now,” de Guzman said.

In April, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda accepted the courtesy resignation of then Executive Director Alexander Ramos and other DICT executives following his appointment to the post.

The courtesy resignations were part of the agency’s reshuffling after former DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy stepped down in March.

Meanwhile, de Guzman assured that Scam Watch remains committed to supporting the CICC’s initiatives that aid scam victims through the national anti-scam hotline 1326.

“We are optimistic that [Aguda] will uphold and enhance the education and awareness programs initiated by [Ramos], with a particular emphasis on maintaining the continuous operation of this vital 24/7 hotline that assists Filipinos facing scam-related incidents, including investment fraud, phishing, and other online threats,” he said.

He also thanked Ramos and the CICC for advancing cybersecurity initiatives and protecting Filipinos from online scams.

“Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Ramos successfully positioned the Philippines’ anti-scam initiatives on the global stage — earning international recognition for innovative efforts to combat online fraud and promote digital safety,” de Guzman said.

“We wish Usec. Ramos, all the best in his future endeavors, and we are confident that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide our collective efforts in combating cyber fraud.” (PNA)
