NHCP TO LAUNCH HISTORICAL RESEARCH ON THE 13 FILIPINO MUSLIM ETHNOLINGUISTIC GROUPS WITH COLLOQUIUM IN CAGAYAN DE ORO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines will launch one of its largest research initiatives through the undertaking of the Inception & Meeting & Research – Writing Colloquium on the History of the 13 Ethnolinguistic Groups of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan at the New Dawn Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on 16-17 January 2025. 

This is the first phase of the NHCP’s Mindanao Research Project, a collaborative multi-year initiative in partnership with the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM).

This project aims to compile and publish a comprehensive history of the 13 Muslim majority ethnolinguistic groups that comprise the regions of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. The undertaking will utilize critical and local narratives in the development of the histories of the respective ethnolinguistic groups. Scholars from various Mindanao Higher Education Institutions and more that 40 resource persons will gather in Cagayan de Oro to facilitate and undertake this first step towards the compilation of materials for this project. 

This is one of the multitude of research and capacity-building programs to be undertaken by the NHCP and its partners in line with the 2030 Year of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage initiative that was directed through Administrative Order No. 10, s. 2023.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
