DA-10 upholds support to localized nutrition initiatives

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In support of the region’s nutrition and food security agenda, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) turned over two boxes, each containing 120 packets of assorted vegetable seeds to the National Nutrition Council – Region 10 (NNC-10) on June 4.

DA-10 Agriculturist II Ronald Allan P. Camaddo, assisted by Project Development Assistant I Princess Sheena B. Mansueto, formally handed over the seeds to NNC-10 representatives Jomel C. Hatague and Efril A. Palangga.

The seeds were distributed to local nutrition stakeholders – the Provincial, City, and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (P/C/M NAOs), District/City/Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/C/M NPCs), and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), during the NNC-10’s 2025 Nutrition Forum on June 6 in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The seed provision preludes this year’s Nutrition Month celebration and signals the urgency for the local government units (LGUs) to institutionalize nutrition-focused programs as part of their local development plans to address challenges in food affordability and accessibility.

In a statement, Patrick John D. Gonzales, NNC-10 Nutrition Officer II, acknowledged the sustained synergy between DA-10 and NNC-10 in empowering communities through integrated food and nutrition interventions.

Earlier this year, the DA-10 pledged its support to the 2025 Regional Search for the Best Garden of Go, Grow, and Glow (G4) by augmenting prizes to winners and finalists. The G4 is a flagship initiative of RNC-10 designed to promote household and institutional gardening as a strategy to counter malnutrition.

RNC is the regional governing body of the NNC, chaired by the DOH, with the DA and DILG as vice-chairs, and member agencies including DepEd, DOST, DOLE, DSWD, DTI, DBM, and NEDA.

Through this inter-agency collaboration, the government continues to champion inclusive, localized, and sustained food and nutrition security programs across the region.# (BJCE)
