The House of Representatives on Wednesday removed An-Waray party-list Representative Florencio “Bem” Noel from its ranks after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) cancelled the group’s registration.
In plenary on Wednesday, Deputy Majority Leader Janette Garin made a motion to unseat Noel, stating that the House has already received the official communication from the Comelec containing the poll body’s August 14 Resolution.
The Resolution cancelled the registration of An-Waray for allowing a second nominee, Isabel Noel, to sit as a member of Congress without the proper authority.
Garin said the Comelec letter states “Certificate of Finality and Entry of Judgement cancelling the registration of An-Waray party-list.”
“In view thereof, Mr. Speaker, I move that the Secretary General be directed to execute and implement the resolution accordingly drop the An Waray party-list representative from the rolls of members of the 19th Congress,” Garin said.
Garin’s motion was carried by the body.
Comelec’s decision stemmed from a 2019 petition filed by Danilo Pornias, Jr. and Jude Acidre, now a Tingog party-list representative.
