A 16-year-old boy is now facing murder charges after killing a 15-year-old with a cutter and stabbing him in the neck with it for no apparent reason, in Sampaloc, Manila on Tuesday night.
Identified only through his alias as “JDP,” the victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after the suspect, one alias ‘Aga.’ 16, reportedly stabbed him in the neck with a cutter. Both are residents of Sampaloc, Manila.
Manila Police District (MPD) public information officer PLt Col. Philipp Ines said a call was received at around 10 p.m. of July 14 by duty officer PSSg Ryan Clifford Salazar from the Calabash PCP regarding a stabbing incident that had just occurred.
Immediately thereafter, responding officers PCpl Judel Gonzales and PCpl Hector M. Advincula, both assigned at the MPD Sampaloc Police Station 4-Calabash Police Community Precinct (PCP), were dispatched to the area to conduct an investigation and documentation.
Upon arrival at the crime scene, responding personnel of Calabash PCP had already secured the area and initiated the necessary police response.
Ines said that based on a a report prepared by PCpl Eury R Magpantay, Station Duty Investigator and Duty Officer of the Day PLT Charity Gedoria, the victim’s companions stated that prior to the incident, they were walking home along Blumentritt Road near the corner of Matimyas Street when they were confronted by a group of unidentified youths, including a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL), who challenged them to a fistfight. The group ignored the provocation and continued walking away.
However, a few minutes later, while traversing Sobriedad Street corner Blumentritt Road, the victim and his companions noticed that the same group had followed them. Sensing imminent danger, the victim picked up a stone for self-defense.
During the ensuing confrontation, the CICL allegedly brandished a bladed weapon and pointed it toward the victim’s cousin, causing panic and a commotion. In the course of the altercation, the victim sustained a stab wound to the neck.
Despite his injury, the victim managed to flee from the assailant. However, he was later found lying unconscious along Santisima Trinidad Street near the corner of G. Tuazon Street, Sampaloc, Manila. He was immediately brought to Ospital ng Sampaloc where he was declared dead on arrival (DOA) at 10:19 p.m. due to the stab wound he sustained in the neck.
Ines said an investigation is still ongoing to determine the identity of all individuals involved and to facilitate the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Homicide Investigator PCMS Jason Evasco was immediately notified regarding the incident and has assumed investigation of the case.
Meanwhile, appropriate follow-up operations resulted in the identification and apprehension of the suspect/CICL, who will be charged with murder.
