The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said security preparations are fully in place for the 128th Independence Day on Friday.
In a statement, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said there is currently no validated threat being monitored in relation to the observance of Independence Day.
“This is an annual activity that we prepare for every year. We trust our commanders and personnel for real-time security adjustments based on threat assessments, intelligence gathering and situation on the ground,” Nartatez said.
He said police forces are working closely with local government units and other stakeholders for coordinated security operations.
Police units nationwide remain on alert and standby forces are ready for immediate deployment in case of any eventuality, according to Nartatez.
Preparations are being done for flag-raising ceremonies, wreath-laying rites, parades, and cultural presentations with the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.”
Police regional offices have activated their security plans in coordination with local government units, event organizers, and partner agencies.
In Metro Manila, around 12,000 police personnel and force multipliers will be deployed, with major security focus on key sites:
- Rizal Park
- the Parada ng Kalayaan route
- Bonifacio Monument
- Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion
- Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine
- the Malacañang area
- the vicinity of the United States Embassy Manila
Security measures are also in place around the Senate and House of Representatives areas, in coordination with officials of the Senate of the Philippines and the House of Representatives of the Philippines.
This is amid possible protest actions linked to the current political tension, according to the PNP.
“We are ready. We are continuously monitoring the situation and we assure the Filipino people of the PNP’s presence and readiness as the country celebrates its Independence Day,” he said. –VAL, GMA News
