President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul following the latter’s reelection and expressed optimism for stronger cooperation between their countries especially in key sectors.
Marcos spoke with Anutin over the phone on Tuesday afternoon.
“Delighted to speak with PM Anutin today to personally convey my congratulations on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. His re-election reflects the trust of the Thai people in his leadership and vision,” the President said in a Facebook post.
He expressed his optimism in collaborating with Thailand in priority areas.
“I look forward to working closely with the Royal Thai Government to expand practical cooperation across priority areas including energy and food security, combating transnational crimes in the ASEAN region, and to ensure that ASEAN remains a force for peace, growth and opportunity for our peoples,” Marcos added.
The Philippines is chair of the regional bloc this year and will host the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits here.
Anutin was reelected on March 19 as prime minister.
In September 2025, he was elected by parliament to serve as prime minister following the constitutional court’s dismissal of Paetongtarn Shinawatra for an ethical breach. — JMA, GMA News
