The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver of a government-owned pick-up truck which went viral on social media for having three passengers on its pick-up bed.
In a statement on Wednesday, the LTO said the driver and the registered owner of the pick-up truck were told to submit their verified comment in a hearing on March 10 at 3 p.m. at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID).
The respondents should explain why they should not be administrative charged for allowing passengers on its pick-up bed, which was designed for cargo.
A photo posted on social media showed three passengers seated on the pick-up bed of the government vehicle.
The driver’s license of the motorist behind the wheel may be also suspended or revoked on charges of being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The LTO said it is preventively suspending the driver’s license for 90 days. It also placed the government vehicle under an LTO alarm to prevent any transactions during the investigation.
The agency said it would resolve the case based on its evidence at hand should the respondents fail to appear and submit their verified explanation.
The respondents may avail the services of a lawyer during the investigation.
“Ang LTO ay nananawagan sa lahat ng motorista na sumunod sa mga batas trapiko upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng lahat sa kalsada (The LTO also appeals to all motorists to abide by traffic rules to ensure the safety of everyone who uses our roads),” the agency added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
