Tino death toll jumps to 224; 109 missing —OCD

The reported death toll following the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Tino has reached 224, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Sunday.

In an update as of 6 a.m., the OCD said the fatalities were recorded in the following areas:

  • Cebu – 158
  • Negros Occidental – 27
  • Negros Oriental – 20
  • Caraga – 8
  • Capiz – 3
  • Leyte – 2
  • Southern Leyte – 2
  • Antique – 1
  • Iloilo – 1
  • Guimaras – 1
  • Bohol – 1

A total of 109 people were reported as still missing including 57 in Cebu, 42 in Negros Occidental, and 10 in Negros Oriental. 

Also, a total of 526 people were reported injured including 454 in Cebu Province, 41 in Leyte, 28 in Negros Occidental, two in Surigao del Norte, and one in Surigao del Sur, acccording to the OCD.

Tyohoon Tino made landfalls over Silago, Southern Leyte; Borbon, Cebu; and Sagay City, Negros Occidental on November 4. Life-threatening conditions continued over Negros Island Region and then Tino approached Panay Island.

On November 5, Tino accelerated over the coastal waters of El Nido, Palawan.
