Huge fire breaks out in Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila

A big fire broke out on Sunday morning in a residential community in Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila.

The first alarm was declared at 8:02 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

However, as the houses were made of light materials and were built close to each other, the fire quickly spread, necessitating the declaration of Task Force Alpha by the BFP at 9:02 a.m.

The BFP further raised the alarm to Task Force Bravo at 10:13 a.m.

Twenty-five fire trucks, four fire boats, and one ambulance then responded.

The affected area is adjacent to the container terminal of the Port Area.

The fire has reached the houses right beside Manila Bay, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB.

 

 

 

Residents tried to save whatever belongings they could amid the thick black smoke seen rising from the affected community.

At 11:55 a.m., the BFP raised Task Force Charlie, according to a follow-up report by Mateo.

 

 

 

The Philippine Coast Guard said its Coast Guard Station Manila and Special Operations Unit (SOU) – Malacañang are helping put out the fire and rescuing residents.

 

The fire was finally put under control at 2:07 p.m., according to a report by Sam Nielsen on Super Radyo dzBB.

Personnel of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army were also on site to help maintain peace and order. —KG, GMA Integrated News
