SunStar Davao, DepEd Partner for Davraa Meet 2025

THE Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Region has renewed its partnership with SunStar Davao, officially endorsing the media outlet as an official media partner for the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2025. The collaboration, which began when Davao City hosted the 2024 regional meet, ensures extensive coverage of this year’s games through print, digital, and social media platforms.

DepEd-Davao Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo formalized the endorsement on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, emphasizing SunStar Davao’s role in documenting the highly anticipated event.

“As an official media partner, SunStar Davao is authorized to cover the Davraa Meet 2025, providing media coverage through print, digital, and social media platforms,” he said.

The Davraa Meet 2025 is set from March 9 to 15, 2025, in Davao del Norte, drawing around 9,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from 11 delegations across the region.

Davao del Norte provincial sports coordinator Giovanni Gulanes, in a recent interview at the Capitol Pavilion in Tagum City, said the local government unit (LGU) of Tagum is co-hosting the sportsfest that serves as qualifying for the Palarong Pambansa 2025.

As preparations intensify, stakeholders—including the provincial government of Davao del Norte, LGU Tagum, DepEd Davao Region, provincial police, and other organizing partners—gathered in Tagum City last week for the third coordination meeting to discuss progress on hosting and security measures.

With just weeks to go before the regional meet, most of the 11 DepEd divisions in the region have already completed their eliminations.

Over the weekend, Santo Tomas emerged as the overall champion of the DavNor Division Meet 2025, dominating the competition with 110 gold, 84 silver, and 77 bronze medals. The Davao del Norte Regional Sports Academy finished second with 95 golds, 54 silvers, and 18 bronzes, while New Corella placed third with 75 golds, 67 silvers, and 89 bronzes. Kapalong (35-54-54) was fourth, Carmen (29-28-41) fifth, Asuncion (26-43-57) sixth, Alppa (9-6-16) seventh, B.E. Dujali (7-19-21) eighth, San Isidro (4-3-15) ninth, and Talaingod (3-10-16) 10th.

Meanwhile, perennial Davraa champion Davao City Durians have started intensive trsaaining and in-house quartering at Mintal Comprehensive National High School.

Farnazo, speaking at the Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet 2025 earlier this month, challenged DepEd Davao City Division to step up its performance at the Palarong Pambansa 2025, as the region aims to improve on its fourth-place overall finish in last year’s Palaro in Cebu City. MLSA
