CANDIDATES for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 who violate the rules on campaigning will be given a show cause order, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, acting regional director of Comelec-Central Visayas, said his office has already received more than 170 complaints over premature campaigning.

Ten of the complaints were received just last week, he said.

“The other week, nadawat nga reklamo gikan sa Task Force Epal, wala pa nay nadawat gikan sa amoang opisina,” said Castillano.

Castillano reminded the candidates to follow the rules to avoid possible disqualification.

“Ako lang ipaabot sa mga kandidato nga follow lang ta sa atong mga campaign period. You have come this far, ayaw ihatag o ayaw i-risgo ang inyong kandidatura just because nga gusto mo manlamang sa inyong kontra. It maybe karong election, makadaog ka but later on, ma disqualified ka tungod sa mga disqualification cases,” he said.

(I just want to tell the candidates to follow the campaign period guidelines. You have come this far, so don’t risk your candidacy just because you want to beat your opponents. You might win this election but might be disqualified later because of the violation.)

As of Monday, October 9, 2023, thousands of complaints have been already filed at the Comelec in Metro Manila.

The Comelec said that all candidates for the BSKE 2023 have 10 days to do their campaign sorties, from October 19 to 28.

On Monday, October 9, the Comelec led the Provincial Joint Security Control Center command conference, together with other agencies and all police chiefs from across Cebu, as part of the preparations for the October 30 elections.

Among those discussed during the meeting Monday were the security preparations and assessment of the different barangays for the categorization of areas of election concern and the possible declaration of areas under Comelec control. (ANV/LMY)
