JAPANESE fighter Ryuto Owan claimed the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global featherweight title with a ninth-round stoppage of South Korean defending champion Jong Seon Kang in a brutal war, in the main event of “Binukbukay sa Sugbo” on February 8, 2025, at the Convention Center of the luxurious NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu City.
The main event lived up to its billing as a fierce brawl.
Owan showcased precision with his crisp jabs and quick combinations.
Kang, who had a bloody nose by the second round, shocked Owan by knocking him down with a right straight in the fourth round.
Owan retaliated and dropped Kang with a left hook in the seventh round.
Kang responded by knocking Owan down in the same round with a counter left.
Both fighters exchanged heavy blows, but Owan got the better of the exchanges.
Owan finally ended the fight in the ninth round, unleashing a barrage of vicious blows to Kang’s head, forcing the referee to stop the fight with one second remaining before the bell.
Owan improved to 14-2 with nine knockouts, while Kang dropped to 20-2-2 with 11 knockouts. (EKA)
