POLICEMEN in the Central Visayas did not encounter any problem on the first day of filing of the certificates of candidacy for the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) slated on October 30, 2023.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, the spokesperson for Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin, the registration procedure on the first day of registration went without a hitch at the various Commission on Election (Comelec) offices in the region, where military and police personnel were stationed to maintain order.

It is expected that a large number of BSKE candidates will show up on the last day of registration on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

On the first day of registration for Barangay and SK polls, the Comelec and PRO-7 also launched simultaneous checkpoints at midnight of August 28.

Pelare said the activity will be carried out every day until the end of the election on October 30, 2023, in order to confiscate unlicensed firearms that might be used in politics.

“Our checkpoint is a Comelec checkpoint, meaning to say, controlled and supervised by the Commission on Election in relation to our preparation for the election, This will be done by PNP (Philippine National Police), the Armed Forces and the Comelec every day in order to maintain order and peace in our region until the election,” Pelare said in Cebuano.

As the election in October and the special election being planned by the Comelec for the second week of December to fill the seat vacated by expelled Negros Oriental third district Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves draw near, Pelare also revealed that the PRO 7 plans to send additional forces to the province to supplement the 100 policemen already stationed there.(AYB, TPT)
