Micro, small, and medium enterprises now have strong support from a pro-labor group in urging the government to further step up its assistance to MSMEs, in response to recent appeals from lawmakers and industry leaders.
Legislators and industry representatives are pressing the national government to prioritize support measures for MSMEs, which they argue are the backbone of the Philippine economy and essential to job creation and economic recovery.
Trabaho Partylist echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that empowering small businesses is critical to achieving widespread, inclusive, and sustainable employment opportunities, a core tenet of the party’s advocacy.
“Small businesses are vital to the livelihood of millions of Filipinos, especially in the working class,” Trabaho Partylist spokesperson Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu stated. “Supporting MSMEs through better access to credit, skills training, and reduced bureaucratic barriers is a necessary step toward dignified employment and long-term economic resilience.”
Founded as a political voice for the working class, Trabaho has long pushed for policy reforms aimed at job creation, upskilling, and improved labor conditions.
Among its objectives is increasing funding for government agencies that promote job generation, such as the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
In light of ongoing economic challenges, Trabaho urged lawmakers and government agencies to act decisively. “Now is the time to be proactive. By helping small businesses thrive, we not only safeguard livelihoods but also fuel inclusive growth,” Atty. Espiritu added.
As Congress continues deliberations on MSME-related policies, Trabaho pledged its continued support for legislative measures that address the needs of the working class and the small enterprises that employ them. PR
