Mandaue barangay requires landlords to register properties, renters

OWNERS of apartments, condominiums and boarding houses in Barangay Centro, Mandaue City are now required to register their properties and their renters.

The barangay ordinance is now up for implementation after getting the nod of the Mandaue City Council’s Committee on Laws during their regular session on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Under the law, landlords must ensure that all their tenants, especially the new ones, could present valid identification cards, such as National Bureau of Investigation clearance, and other government IDs, which they will submit to the barangay.

At the same time, landlords must also secure a barangay permit when registering.

In an interview with Sunstar Cebu Monday, May 8, 2023, some landowners expressed dismay over the ordinance as this will give them additional burden. (HIC, TPT)
