A 22-year-old carnival attendant ended up getting shot in the buttocks after refusing to sell shabu to an armed man at a market in Inabanga town at past midnight on Saturday.
According to Chief Master Sgt. Mitchel Nioda of the Inabanga Police Station, the victim who was identified as Alex Macalo of Tagbilaran City was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical aid.
Initial police investigation indicated that Macalo was in a drinking session with five others when the still unidentified suspect approached him and asked to buy shabu from him.
Macalo refused to sell shabu denying that he was engaged in the illegal drug trade but the suspect was allegedly adamant resulting in an altercation.
“Ga inom ni sila sud sa merkado unom sila kabuok unya hing duol nila og makapalit ba siya og item which means shabu. Karon ilang gibalibaran pero sige jud ang suspek og pangutana kay mo palit jud kuno siya og shabu. So ilang gibuhat, ilang gikulata,” said Nioda.
Amid the heated argument, the victim and his companions beat up the suspect who then pulled out a pistol and shot at Macalo.
“Ang suspek natumba unya napasok ilawom sa lamesa na kawayan so pagkapasok hing bunot og armas sa iyang belt bag mao nanagan ning grupo sa biktima unya ang suspek hing pusil na mura’g pataka nalang,” Nioda said.
Macalo’s companions then brought him to a hospital on board a motorcycle while the gunman fled the area.
The victim and his companions were unable to identifiy the suspect who they only described to have been wearing a jacket, a face mask and a cap. (A. Doydora)
