Man drowns after being whisked away by strong water current while fishing in Cebu City barangay

A MAN drowned after he was swept by the strong water current when he crossed a spillway in the mountain Cebu City barangay of Cambinocot on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Police Captain Wilmer Castillo, deputy station commander of Talamban Police Station, identified the victim as Nelson Suplaag, 57, from the neighboring barangay of Paril.

Castillo said the victim went to the area to catch fish with his son and nephew when the incident occurred past 4 p.m.

Castillo said Suplaag was warned by his companions not to cross the river but he ignored their pleas.

Suplaag’s body was found two hours after the incident. (BBT, TPT)
